Medical Care

With so many children to take care of in PremaHome, there is a need for medical attention and care every single day, 365 days a year. The dispensary gives free first aid and medical treatment to the children, residents and labourers. In cases of serious illnesses and for certain medical tests the children are brought to the hospital in the nearest town.
The dispensary is a simple building and there are very basic facilities and only the very basic medical equipment (a sterilizer, stethoscope, sphygmometer).
People who have visited the Home also often send or bring small medical supplies such as antibiotics, bandages, band-aids and so on. Mineral supplements are given to the children, which are distributed to them at school.

The resident doctor:

"The children who come here are from deprived backgrounds and when I see them for the first time I often find them in bad health. They frequently have skin and intestinal parasites, which makes them even more prone to other diseases. They often also suffer from vitamin deficiency. I see many who are anaemic and suffer from lack of proteins. Their diseases are mostly caused by malnourishment in their infancy and the effects can stay with them all their lives. By treating these children well we try to rectify this, as well as teach them basic techniques of hygiene and desinfection, which will help them and their own children later on."
