Much of the food that is cooked and distributed for free by PremaHome is produced organically on its own fields. PremaHome’s aim is to develop the agricultural activities further, so that in the long term food production is self-sufficient. This reduces the cost of the food and guarantees freshness and high quality.
Thousands of Neem trees (Azadirachta indica) were also planted on land previously covered with rocks and thorn bushes. This is part of a larger reforestation programme. Less than ten years on, the Neem trees are growing well and PremaHome wants to expand the burgeoning forest.
On barren land PremaHome has planted thousands of fruit trees, in order to restore the soil’s fertiliy and help the environment by reducing green house gasses. When the trees give fruits, they will be used for the benefit of the children of PremaHome.
PremaHome started the cultivation of sugarcane on several acres, which will provide sugar for the free food programme.
